The James Kent, an 180 ton steamship, was built by the Allaire Iron Works of New York City in 1823. It's presumed that these plates were for dinner service aboard the ship however this has not been confirmed to date. The James Kent once carried Marquis de Lafayette during his triumphant return the US in 1824. 

Mint condition

Made by hand with hand applied ink transfers in the first quarter of the nineteenth century making this plate around 200 years old.

Hand Made in England in the Staffordshire Pottery District. Made for domestic use and export abroad including to the United States during the early National period.
